This report courtesy ISUR 1997- Coralville, Iowa I was driving my car near the site of a soon to be giant shopping mall near I-80 and its intersection with I-380. I was on a quiet street in a newer subdivision devoid of large trees just a few hundred yards away from the busy Interstate. I was looking out my window driving slowly and I saw in the clear blue sky a shiny oblong metallic object. I was looking to the NW. I first thought it was a jet perhaps heading to the Cedar Rapids airport 23 miles to the N-NW but it was too high and also seemed to be slowing as it increased in brilliance. Indeed the object slowed to a near standstill as I judged its movement above the peak of a roof across the street. At one point I briefly saw a red spot on it. The sun was at my back and I was wearing dark prescription sunglasses. The wind was blowing strongly against the direction of flight and I ruled out a high flying mylar balloon. The winds at all levels that week were coming from the NW on the heels of a big storm on the Northern Plains. Then the object began to move away quickly and dim as it diminished in size also. I watched it from being the size of a quarter at arms length to the size of a half pea. It turned grey as it moved away but the sun angle was the same. It also appeared to be gaining altitude as it moved to the northwest. I watched it for a steady and unswerving 5 minutes. *** Occurred : 1/11/1997 05:00 Reported: 1/11/1997 Posted: 3/21/2003 Location: St.Cloud, MN Shape: pyramid Duration:2 min. Great speed, seen from 1/4 mile away. I don't recall what day, or exactly what year, however it occurred in January. Whatever the year was, it was the year of comet Hyukutaki, and the date of the occurance was the night that the comet was to be most visible, for our area and weather. I was driving home from work that evening, and in casual observance I was looking to see if I could spot the comet; not realizing that the comet was to be seen in the eastern night sky, and I was travelling west on hwy. 60. As I rounded the corner by Crysteel Manufacturing, I saw a luminescent sphere the color of silver, appear from the northern horizon proceeding to the southern horizon and disappering in the distance. At first sight I thought it was the comet, yet in a split second I realized that it was something else. As I wathced; this object flew "nap of the earth", as it crossed over the expressway it appeared to be 100' above the ground, and was about the size of a quarter in perspective from my distance to it.(1/4 mile). As it continued its flight south, it crossed over a grove of cottonwood, just grazing the tops and silohueting the branches as it passed each succesive grove of trees. The length of time that I observed this was about 6 maybe 7 seconds, and the distance that it travelled from one horizon to the other is about 6+ miles. Naturally I was in disbeleif of what I saw, even though I knew I saw "something", when about 3 seconds later the second object dropped out of the sky in a very steep angle, as if it had been waiting for the other, and proceeded in the same direction, but with greater speed; the bottom of the second object was at the same tree top height above the ground. This second object was a sphere as well, only of greater magnitude, about football field in diameter. The color of the second sphere was this amazingly emerald green. To this day, I am still amused by the fact that I saw these two objects that were purposefully flying towards some objective, and that they definetly were not some natural phenomenom that were just ambling throught the air! I also cannot get over how pristine and intense the colors of these objects were; that the colors were not necesarily a surface coloration, but rather a luminuous glow emminating from a reflective metalic surface, like the color you get from anodized metal. ((NUFORC Note: We believe the comet was visible in the spring of 1997. We have amended the date above. DAYLIGHT DISC SEEN IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA A silver-gray saucer was seen in broad daylight in Hermantown, Minnesota at 1:40 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 1997. The UFO appeared over Minnesota Highway 53 in Hermantown, just west of the Lakes 8 Cinema and Wal-Mart. Hermantown (population 6759) is a suburb of the port city of Duluth, located at the western end of Lake Superior. The UFO was witnessed by over 10 people, including Dave Briscoe, Minnesota state director of Skywatch International. Briscoe described the object as "the craft was 'oval-saucer' shaped and silver-grey in color." "I was about seven miles away by vehicle," Briscoe reported. "And I saw the object for approximately three minutes. Other witnesses said they saw it for about fifteen (minutes). Reports said that it had simply 'appeared' from what they could tell and hovered, not making any type of sound, or other movement." "No lights could be seen from the ground," he added, "but I did notice dark points marking the 'side' which was later confirmed by other witnesses. I could see four from my vantage point. The other witnesses could not tell if there were more or not." The saucer took off toward the northeast, Briscoe reported, towards the Duluth airport "and then after just a fraction of a second in that direction, went straight up and out of sight. Speed was incalculable at this point." (Thanks to Dave Briscoe and Skywatch International for this story.) Summary : We observed something strange along the freeway with at least 5 strobe lights we thought it was going to crash, but it pulled up at the last second. My wife and I were heading home from Duluth Minnesota, south on interstate 35 on Feb. 8th 1997 at dusk, the sun was setting but there was still some light. About 2 miles north of Stacy Minnesota (North of Wyoming Minnesota) My wife said, look it's going to crash ! I looked out side window of the truck, and seen this .... I don't know what it was, it had 5 or more strobe lights lighting up one at a time around the perimeter of the object. I coundn't make out the shape because it was dusk, but I could see something. The craft came towards the ground at a steep angle and pulled up at the last second and went up..up..up. We watched for what seemed to be about a minute, I never did stop or pull off the freeway, I was just so amazed I didn't think of stopping ! The freeway runs parallel with state highway 61, the two roads are about 1/4 mile apart where we seen it, so it must have been about half way between interstate 35 and state hwy 61, about 1/8 mile from our truck. The freeway had alot of traffic, some one else had to see this, who would be playing in plane at this time of the evening, in the winter ? I thought plane only had one or two lights? I am only reporting this now because I have just learned about you and I am a big ufo secptic, but I also learned about a week later my in-laws, who winter in Phenoix, seen something really strang in march, which made the news. Small rotating object seemed to join large object which decended blow treetops, resembled a formation. A week prior during daylight another object witnessed by 2 people in two different places seen suspended in north sky, very bright, and quiet and floating, not like a plane. The small object with the rotating lights seemed to linger in a general area of the sky and spin around, soon after we saw it, a large object came from the northwest and the small object seemed to disappear, whether it joined the large objectwe don't know for sure. The large object was very brilliant in the shape of a cross with 4 bright lights accross the back and 3 bright lights up the center (a bottom view), we were traveling north and the large object rapidly disappeared below the treetops to our southeast. The week before I and my daughter who was going home from work 10 miles away, saw a shiny cigar or flattened oval shape, very brilliant in the north sky in broad daylight. I watched it and so did she, it didn't seem to be going anywhere and didn't make any noise. It just sort of drifted in the sky, and appeared quite large. At each corner there was a bright red light, except for the center corner, which appeared to be the tail end of the craft. The light at my left was smaller than the one at the right and it was blinking. I was able to see the body, which appeared dark grey and metal-like in structure. It was difficult to judge the size of the craft -- it was either the size of a small plane, flying low, or a large craft flying high. The sky was overcast -- blue-black, nearing nightfall. It first caught my attention while driving toward it. I thought it might be a plane coming towards me, and that's why it looked like it was stationary. However, after a quarter of a mile I was able to reach it near a vacant parking lot where I pulled in and parked. I was almost directly below it when I looked up through the windshield and saw it was definately hovering. After about 30 seconds, it glided toward me and stopped again. It then appeared to have smaller lights next to the larger lights toward the inside, but it wasn't clear. Then it gracefully turned at a moderate speed and floated away about five (?) miles in the sky where it hovered again for approxiamtely 3-4 minutes, then just disappeared. During this period of time, there were other aircraft in the air also; a jet that was heading towards the Minneapolis Airport from the southwest, a plane of an unknown size in the western sky, and a small plane heading from the south east to the northwest. The red lights that were visible on these planes were tiny and dull in comparison. The odd aircraft and I were directly in the center of this triangle of aircraft, near the main, busy highway that runs north/south. When it turned and cruised away, it chose to cross in front of the small plane, traveling to the northeast. It's possible that this plane's pilot may have seen it also. I'm not certain, but it almost looked as though the small plane made a turn in an attempt to follow it. I would be very interested in knowing if anyone else witnessed this, and most of all-- what it was that I saw. It perhaps was some sort of new aircraft--it's shape was similar to some of what I've seen in documentaries that the government has -- but then, I'd like to know why it was in this area. If nothing else, I'd like this clarified. I am not the type to get easily over-excited because I realize there are sometimes logical explanations. I was completely of sober, alert mind and on my way to work when this occurred. I'm a professional designer and as soon as I reached work, I drew up a rough sketch. *** Occurred : 3/22/1997 21:00 Location : Lake Geneva, WI Shape : Light Summary : Near moon. I saw the object in the northern sky, while I was star gazing. I took some pictures and am waiting for them to develop. At approx. 22:45, I had gone outside to chart its location and take some pictures. After this I took my flashlight out and started flashing at the object seeing if I could get its attention. They assumed it was the Hale-Bopp comet. (Note: they were looking south, and Hale-Bopp was in the NE). They continued to watch as they drove south on HWY 3. A few miles south of Farmington, the sparkling stopped suddenly. At this point the 2 could clearly make out 2 objects, both the same, triangular in shape, dark in color, with bright white large lights in each corner and larger bright amber light in the center. The objects continued to hover there until the 2 got close enough (several hundred feet distant) to the objects that they pulled over and got out to watch. As if they had been seen, the 2 objects then rotated pointing towards the NW and casually took off in that direction. The 2 witnesses continued to watch until the objects were obscured by trees. Experience: Sunday 23 March, 1997 approx. 10:45 PM in St. Paul. A friend and I were observing the eclipse. While she was looking through the binoculars at the moon, I noticed a group of objects moving towards us. Initially I thought they were geese. I asked my friend what she thought they were. As they passed overhead we observed 6 to 8 circular objects with orange/red light around the perimeter. The light was of the color you would expect from a heated object. They were flying in approximately a line formation and were absolutely silent. Because of the "oscillating" light around them I initially thought that the effect was due to flapping wings. This was definitely not the case as they passed overhead. Interestingly, the apparent path the objects took was from the eclipse (as viewed from my porch) towards the comet. The sky was perfectly clear that evening. If the objects were 50' in diameter I would estimate their altitude at approx. 3000 feet. However, I have no means of estimating their true diameter. Even more interesting to me, at least, was that my friend reported she had seen the same phenomena some 7 or 8 years previously in St. Paul. She said she and a friend called them "electronic birds" for lack of a better description. On this occasion, she immediately recalled the previous event as the observation was unmistakable. Sighting Location: Grand Rapids, MN Sighting Time/Date: April 3, 1997, 8pm CST I got a report from a co-worker who saw some "interesting lights" on Thursday evening (April 3) at about 8PM CST, when he was stargazing near Grand Rapids, MN. I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten any such reports. They were described as three lights in horizontal formation approximately 10 degrees from each other, hovering about 40 degrees above the horizon. Their location was due east of Grand Rapids. They were described as white in color and very bright, half the width of a thumbnail at arms length. They moved somewhat erraticaly, but remained roughly in position, until the witness thinks that they dropped below the tree line.
To me this suggests a formation of helicopters. "I watched it through my prescription sunglasses until the sun blinded me," he said. "It first moved slowly, like a floating Mylar balloon, but against the northwest wind. It came to a halt and was still shining and disc-like. It then began moving again, and its skin turned to a frosty gray. But I watched it for about five minutes total. Finally, the gray dot appeared to gain altitude and speed away into the northwest sky. At one point during its hover, I saw a glimpse of red in the middle." (Email Interview) On Sunday night, April 13, 1997, at 8:30 p.m., Jeff Roberts and another seven eyewitnesses were standing outdoors in Ankeny, Iowa (population 15,429) about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Des Moines when they spied "a V-shaped chartreuse object" in the sky. Roberts described the UFO as "shaped like a crown on a king," i.e. W-shaped. Witnesses then saw a second UFO "shaped like a cigar" and a third "that was only visible through binoculars" and "moved in a counter-clockwise rotation." Red, blue and yellow lights were reported. The UFOs remained visible until 4:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14. Investigating this case is Beverly Trout of MUFON Iowa. (Many thanks to Tim Edwards for this story.) "Coming out of the west was what appeared to be a satellite," he reported. "Turned out to be the lead in a group of three UFOs. Their color was a dim, almost transparent hazy yellow. The group appeared to be traveling at the speed of a satellite in low Earth orbit."
The witness described the UFOs as "bulbous on the upper and lower side with a typical saucer outline...effortlessly skimming towards the east." The three UFOs flew in V-formation at 67 degrees above the eastern horizon. Went to investigate and then saw a large object in the eastern sky. He called his mother who also went to investigate. The first and what would also be the largest of the craft was the firstlight seen. It was the brightest light we had ever seen in the sky except sun and moon. The craft was triangular in shape with lights on the corners. When it was right overhead, a small triangular structure could be seen on the underside. It hovered for a while and then was approached by another smaller craft. The large one began to turn north west and the smaller craft followed. The craft abruptly turned and went due north. Then after they were over the horizon, more of the smaller sized craft began to be seen from the south moving north. They appeared one at a time in approx. two minute intervals. It took them less than two minutes to go from horizon to horizon. We had never seen any craft move that quickly. Many of them maneuvered in distinct manners: forward-reverse, forward-reverse; hover; very quick zigzag; 45+ degree banks in a matter of seconds, almost as if a display. Light pattern: one light on one wing would flash and then the other two would follow. Colors of the lights were white in front, blue and redon the sides and smaller amber to red on the inside of the triangle, making a perfect equilateral triangle inside the craft perimeter.Sound: At first like a plane, but then a high pitched hum could be heard particularly when the craft was right over us. A while afterwards, almost like blowing over the top of a tube. More than 20-35 of these were seen over the course of approximately 45 minutes, traveling from the south, some going northwest, some northeast, and some traveling directly overhead to the north. *** UFO SQUADRONS GATHER NORTH OF TWIN CITIES A startling multiple UFO sighting took place in Minnesota this week, just north of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. On Wednesday, April 24, 1997, at 9:45 p.m., a boy living in the Twin Cities suburb of New Brighton, Minnesota (population 23,269) looked out a window and saw a bright, diamond-shaped UFO in the sky. Immediately he told his mother, and the two of them went into the backyard of their home, located not far from Long Lake Road and Silver Lake Road. In a report to the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, the woman reportedly said she counted 30 UFOs overhead between 9:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. The UFOs were described as "diamond-shaped" or "triangular-shaped craft moving at incredible speed, darting back and forth across the sky." She added that she and her son "saw the underbelly of one or more crafts and the light underneath." The family lives in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin (population 9,909), located 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Milwaukee. "We are avid sky watchers and go 'sky fishing' on clear nights, one or two nights a week," Mr. P.H. said. "For months, we have observed extremely high moving objects which traverse the sky in a few minutes. Under the increased power of my binoculars, they appear solid, self-illuminated and round. These objects, which we named 'High Movers'...are moving in a north-to-south or south-to-north direction, with slight east and west variations. This is not consistent with satellites." Also, P.H. pointed out that his family is seeing these "High Movers" at nighttime hours when convential orbital satellites are cloaked in Earth's umbra (shadow). "That night (April 25, 1997), my wife and I and our 13-year-old daughter had gone out about 9:30 p.m. to our favorite viewing spot outside of town (Oconomowoc)," he reported. "It is a remote, rural area, and the sky was crystal clear. That night we saw a total of seven High Movers." "Now, here is what is interesting," he added, "all but two were moving to the northwest, towards Minnesota! I followed one moving to the northwest about 9:45 p.m. with my binoculars and just as it was about to drop below the horizon, I saw another moving near it, more to the east. I was totally amazed to have two in my field of vision at the same time, since viewing through binoculars greatly restricts your field of vision. A third High Mover (UFO) streaked past both of them. Wow! I've never seen three in the sky at once...much less in the same binocular field of view." "I believe I was witnessing the comings and goings of some of the objects witnessed in Minnesota," he added, "The date was the same, the time was approximately the same, and the compass direction (northwest) appears to be the same, as well." (Many thanks to Steve Wilson for this news story.) *** UFOs RETURN TO NEW BRIGHTON, MINNESOTA On Monday, April 28, 1997, psychic Alana Ray visited the site of a UFO sighting four days earlier, Thursday, April 24, in New Brighton, Minnesota. A woman named Kay and her son, Tony, witnessed 30 UFOs flying over their home near Long Lake Road. Ms. Ray, a member of CSETI, "arrived sometime after 3 p.m. and...met her (Kay's) son and daughter for the first time. I continued to stay until quite late." "I saw that Kay had just let her two small dogs out," Ms. Ray reported, "and I proceeded to move out onto the lawn. We both looked up into the sky together. Tony joined us, and we all stood looking and feeling an energy. Well, we started to see these lights coming from the southwest. (Silver Lake in New Brighton and Columbia Park in Minneapolis--J.T.) The craft were quite high up in altitude, and yet low enough that you could see the shape and other features." "As they came in closer, we saw that they were triangular in shape. We saw craft coming from the south and the west heading towards the east and also going towards the north...Later this changed and the triangular and circular craft were going from the north to the southwest." Ms. Ray reported that she made three phone calls during the two-hour sighting, one to fellow CSETI and MUFON member Robert Schultz of New Brighton, Minn., another to Craig Lang of Minnesota MUFON and a third to the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle. "Over the two hours, we sighted approximately 13 to 15 triangular craft and three circular ones," Ms. Ray reported. "One in particular was at a lower altitude and had a huge light, emitting out the front at the vehicle in front of it. Kay had told me that this was similar to the one that shot light through their window the other night (April 24). There were incredibly bright white lights blinking and amber colored lights. Then we heard a combination of what at first appeared to sound like an aircraft, but with a high whirling sound also. I live by an airport and see aircraft day and night all the time, and these did not look or sound anything to what I am accustomed to seeing." "The circular craft were moving at greater speeds and had more of a variety of colors blinking in circular motion. All of these craft moved irregularly, sliding smoothly most times and then jerking back and forth, and side to side... It was as though they did not go any faster (so) as not to call attention to themselves." (Many thanks to Errol Bruce Knapp for this story.) ***

The object was several miles away and moving towards us. It moved closer at a somewhat slow pace. The object stopped and hovered about 20 yards above the trees about a quarter mile away. The object seemed to be ball shaped, emmiting a blue glow, with three white lights encircling the object. It hovered there for about 2 minutes, motionless, then slowly began to rise. The object emmitted no sound, and headed straight up. It angled slightly to the west and began moving very fast away from us. In a few seconds it was out of sight. Believe me this sighting was very real! ***

It appeared to have 2 smaller objects flying around it. Fom my point it appeared that the object was about 150 ft up and approximately 1/2 to 1 mile long. No noticeabe lights. At about 2 pm, I noticed a _very_ large object north of my apartment. It appeared to have a reddish hue, and was moving fairly slow, but steadily towards the east.I then noticed two smaller objects circling around it and managed to see one of the objects through my 4.5" telescope. Although I couldn't keep it in the field of view long, it appeared to be somewhat like an airplane, but more like "ship" shaped. From the fact that these two objects were flying around the main object, and I live close to an airport and see air traffic all the time, the main craft must have been anywhere from 1/2 to 1 mile long. I could only see the edge and it was fairly thin, probably 40-50 feet.Anyway, it was huge. I would like to know if anyone else in the area reported anything. The thought occured to me that it could have been one of those advertising banners, but I did not see anything pulling it and on second thought it was far too big to be a banner. Billy Dee was driving home on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula, "leaving the outskirts of the city of Sturgeon Bay (population 8,847)." As he looked up "into the clear blue sky," Rev. Dee saw "a metallic object that was brightly illuminated by the sun but also threw off its own light. Although small, about the size of a small hen's egg, it was clear and vivid...It was the classic saucer shape craft...At first I thought it may be a small one-engine plane. But I soon gave up that thought, as I viewed the craft for over two minutes before it vanished. I can only describe it as what I saw was dazzling and beautiful, and mind- boggling." "Julie says, awestruck, 'Oh, my God, look at that!'" Mr. H. recalled. "At that point we both sprang from our chairs and stared at an erratic bright yellow/orange light doing crazy spirals. St. Hilaire is located south of Thief River Falls in northwestern Minnesota. Three Newfolden girls spotted the UFO as they were driving west on County Road 3, coming from Grand Forks, ND. The UFO followed adjacent to their car, about 300 feet from it, as they drove north from St. Hilaire to Thief River Falls. They were driving at 60 mph and the UFO kept pace with the car for about 3 miles. Other drivers also saw the UFO, but none have come forward. The driver, age 21, contacted Pennington and Marshall County sheriffs' departments. The National Weather Service and the Grand Forks Air Force base had no reports of the UFO as of the writing of the sighting. The UFO was reported to be a 100-foot disc bright enough to light up the immediate area. It was of a shiny silver metal with windows around it and a red light at the rear. The cliffs were about 2-3 miles away. The object sat just above the horizon of the cliffs. It looked like it was made of shiny metal, like chrome. As I said, I thought it was a water tower or light, but I couldn't see any support pole of any kind. It was a bright, clear, and sunny day. I continued to stare at the object waiting for my eyes to resolve the support pole. After about 35-40 seconds, I looked back at the band (I was tired of looking at what I thought was a water tower). After about 5 more seconds, I looked back at the cliffs, but it was gone. I never shifted my feet and the area of the sky I could see was very small (about 5 degrees side to side, and about 2 degrees top to bottom) because of the trees framing the top. I had to be looking at the same area of the sky. I moved my upper body back and forth, and up and down to find the object again, but it was not there. I walked around to the other side of crowd so I could see more of the sky, but could not find a water tower or light. They were traveling in a capsule sitting vertical position as they moved from east to west. They evetually disappeared into the western horizon. Nothing Real dramatic in their appearance or movement other than they were moving very fast, and they were defintely not airplanes. First I saw one capsuale shaped object. It was silver color, like when the sun shines on an airplane. It was traveling from east to west. What really caught my attention was that this capsule shaped object was traveling east to west with this capsule shape positioned vertical. I was walking to my vehicle where my friend was waiting, still watching as I walked to my vehicle. My friend and I proceeded to watch and have a discussion about this object, and the possibilities of what it might be when I got in my vehicle. Meanwhile, it had traveled closer to the horizon. Suddenly there were two more of same objects that our eyes had now been drawn to. They were almost at the edge of the horizon. They were traveling even with each other side by side. They were also traveling east to west like the first one. Which was sitll traveling in same direction towards the other 2 in the western horizon. They were all traveling very fast. What we both saw next Immediately Eliminated a lot of the possibilities of what we thought these objects might be. It was another capsuale shaped object dropping straight down into our atmosphere. The reason I can say this with confidence is that it was sparking, and it was red hot in color. It appeared to then just stop moving momentarily. It cooled quickly as I saw it change color from this red hot look to the silver color like the other three. Once it changed to this silver color it started moving east to west in same direction as the other 3 objects. Same speed very fast in a straight east to west direction. We watched them all move straight from the east into the western horizon untill we lost site of all four as they dissapeared into horizon. I am a tool and die maker. My friend is a printer. I'm still curious as to what they might have been. They where definitely not airplanes. This wobble lasted for about 30 seconds then it continued to travel in a stright line. Its speed also slowed down as it crossed the sky. Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota Black Triangle Sighting Date: Summer of 1997 Time: Evening http://www.hbccufo.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1837 Dear Brian: Since someone reported a 1993-4 sighting I thought I should chime in with my Black Triangle sighting in the summer of 1997, in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, a town 15 miles north of Stillwater in the St. Croix River Valley bordering Wisconsin, about 50 miles northeast of the Twin Cities. My sister and I happened to be watching the X-Files without any big hoopla. The show ended she wandered over to the sliding door out onto the deck and said, "See there are those lights that I've seen before." She had told me about multi-colored spheres doing formations unexplainable by conventional technology which she had seen in the river valley a little north and also earlier in Taos, New Mexico. She was bored and went inside. I kept on observing these "plasma spheres" on the horizon to the east and spent maybe 10 minutes comparing them to possible explanations so I could potentially rule out what I was observing. Different colored lights were hovering, making 90 degree directional changes both vertically and horizontally. Then I realized something was slowly heading right towards me from the horizon, probably 10 miles away. I waited and a large, flat black triangle slowly flew right over our yard, right above the tree-line. I was not familiar with the black triangle sightings at this time but my immediate reaction was that it must be some secret military craft. The object was so close I could have hit it with a rock and it flew very slowly while only making a slight humming sound. I didn't dare look away. There were lights on each its corners and the black triangle slowly passed maybe 100 feet over the roof of our house and continued on across the river valley. My parents use to operate the local legal (removed) for the surrounding towns and one of their workers had brought in a binder of clippings from the UFO flap in the area during the 1970s. There were large round UFOs right in the paper and a cattleman had moved away because of mutilation to his cattle on his land adjacent to a federal wildlife reserve. Also that area is a military flight test area. My dad, also in summer 1997, saw a UFO -- he said it was "bigger than the moon and had lights all around the center of it." He couldn't figure out what it was so I told him that was a U.F.O. and he refused to accept that term since he's a rationalist -- but he was listening to Art Bell at the time as well. It wasn't until I came across other descriptions of Black Triangle Sightings on Rense.com a few years ago that I realized I had experienced the exact same phenomenon as many others. My book reading further verified the extensive sightings elsewhere, i.e. Belgium. But not till now have I reported the sighting, as far as I can remember, and I didn't see my location marked on the map in the recent Black Triangle report. Thank you to the witness for the report. Three people were involved in the sighting-- a 50-year-old woman, her 22-year-old son, and her 11-year-old grandson. At 9:30 p.m. on August 7, the boys were driving home when the younger one spotted a triangular UFO in the sky. "The first triangle was 500 feet away and about 200 feet (in) altitude," Beverly Trout, Iowa MUFON state director reported, "and moved parallel at about 20 miles per hour. The 60-foot triangle moved in a generally easterly direction for about two miles, as the boys drove through Stone Park, a heavily wooded area of hills, deep ravines and winding roads. Eventually it crossed the road just behind the vehicle and headed back to the west." When they turned onto the road leading to their farmhouse, a "strange animal" bumped into the car's passenger door. "The boys described it as reminding them of a hyena." Arriving at home, the boys told their mother/ grandmother. She responded that there were "no such things" as UFOs. "Just then," Ms. Trout added, "the 11-year-old pointed to the southwest of their house, and there was another triangle about 300 feet in size about 3/4 of a mile (1.2 kilometers) and only about 500 feet (in) altitude, moving very slowly." The UFO hovered for 15 minutes. To the west of the house, the family noticed an "amber-colored globe of light" in the sky, "with an apparent size of a little less than a full moon, from which three globes emerged (same size as the original globe), darted around, then re-merged with the original, then faded." Since the sighting, the younger boy has had repeated dreams featuring "large heads with no faces." Also, the boys did not arrive home until 10:45 p.m., after what should have been a 15-minute drive. The case is being investigated by Beverly Trout, Irene Barnes, Dr. Lawrence Lacey and MUFON consultant Robert Lyon. Bright blue light appeared across lake then shot off. It has been a few years since the event, but it still sticks out in my mind and I don't think I'll ever forget it. We were on a week long camping trip in the BWCA, when on the fourth night, we were at a beautiful campsite with great fishing from shore, and I had decided to try my luck at some night fishing. So, I left my companions at the fire and walked down a small trail and onto the rock outcroppings on the shoreline, about 150 feet from the campsite. The stars were out and were brilliant. There was no wind and the water was dead calm. I started casting for a while, and after about 15 minutes I snagged my lure on a rock in the water. I tried getting it loose, but it wasn't working so just as I reached out to cut my line, something caught my eye above the trees on the opposite shoreline (which was about 1/4 mile away). I saw a bright bluish-white light rise up from the treeline very slowly for about 15 seconds. I just stood there looking at it in awe. If I had to guess at the size of it, I'd say it was as big as a bus, but I couldn't exactly tell the shape because of the blue glow around it. As it got further above the treeline, it stopped moving and just hovered for a few seconds. I yelled at my buddies, but they were too far away and busy talking around the fire. I kept my eyes on the light the whole time. It then started moving horizontally at about the same speed it had risen previously. It probably moved horizontally an eigth of a mile when all of the sudden, it shot off into the sky and out of sight faster than anything I'd ever seen move before in my life. The object made no sound/noise at all. I just dropped my fishing rod and ran back to camp, shaking and hardly able to spit out a sentence. When I finally calmed down and told my friends the story, they just joked about it and would not believe a word of it. None of us were drinking or had any sort of drugs, unless there was something weird in the fish we ate out of that lake (just kidding). I am not making this up. I would never lie about something like this. I wish I could find out if anyone else was camping in the BWCA at the same time and might have seen the same thing, from a different lake or somewhere nearby. A year and a half later, I saw almost the exact same thing in the winter, but not in the BWCA. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. Tonight I had a sighting in my back yard. I saw a bright light in the sky to the east of my house at about 65 degrees up in the sky. It seemed to be at a very high altitude. It was just as bright and looked very similar to the planet that is in the southeastern sky. Im no astronomer, but Im asuming it is a planet because of how bright it is. I was out taking my dog to the bathroom and noticed this light in the sky. I thought it was a planet, but after about a minute, it started moving south at a very high rate of speed. I cant describe how far it moved, but I think it was about 20 degrees across the sky and then started going straight up until it vanished from sight. I am only 3 miles from MSP airport and know that the people I have told so far think it was an airplane, but it was a single light and there were no strobes or red and green light. Also, like I had said before, It was still for about a minute, and then move very quickly south, then straight up until I could not see it anymore. I kept searching the sky to see if I could see it further south but couldnt. About one minute after i lost sight of it, I saw to more objects very high in the sky. They looked like satellites, one moving due south and the other moving due north. They looked like they were on the same flight path, only going opposite directions. The one travelling north had suddenly changed direction due west for about 10 degrees and then changed back to due north. Its possible that its just a coincidence, and I was seeing satellites, but I dont think so. Can you tell me if satellites travel north-south as well as east west? ***

"I looked out the window," Van said, "And all of a sudden, I saw this triangle-shaped aircraft. It had bright white lights at the end of each of the corners. And in back of the aircraft, it had red lights, sort of like the engine. So I watched it fly across the sky not far from my house." "I heard nothing, absolutely nothing, no noise or anything. So then I turned and saw this other aircraft, more like the flying saucer type. It had bright red lights encircling the craft, and a bright white light on top. So I watched it fly across, too. No sound at all." Van ran upstairs to get a telescope. But, by the time he returned, "the spaceships seemed to have disappeared." Then, about 20 minutes later, he "saw the saucer-shaped object flying far beyond my backyard, but it was moving too fast for me to see anything with the telescope." The weather was very clear, there were light breezes and viewing was excellent. The woman, who is currently enrolled in an astronomy class through one of the local universities here, decided to put in some star-gazing time for that class by arising early. She took binoculars with her and stepped outside her house to watch the sky in the early morning hours of Friday, September 26. Almost immediately her attention was drawn to the ESE portion of the darkened sky. There she reported seeing "three stars very close together as though they were one." She said they appeared to be rotating very rapidly together and much brighter than ordinary stars. She said that they cycled through the color spectrum, rapidly changing color from red to orange, then yellow on to green, blue and indigo. Not only did they change color rapidly, but they seemed to move from one location in that part of the sky to another, as if jumping from spot to spot, all the while continuing to rotate. Additionally, she said that they appeared to be shooting out colored laser beams of light. She watched this sight through ordinary binoculars, which allowed her to differentiate the various spheres of light which resembled stars. This sighting lasted from 4 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. At one point, she called her husband to come out and watch with her, which he did for a moment or two. However, he was too tired to stay up very long. In his conversation with me this afternoon he said that he knew it was not any planet or star that he was looking at, but did not know what it was. His wife reported that, after having informed her astronomy professor of her lengthy observation, he was likewise unable to explain to her what it was she saw. Her husband told me that the sighting might have been accounted for by one of two pieces of additional information he discovered this past week: 1) He said that he found out that the Russian space station MIR had been scheduled to pass overhead at that time, and that perhaps that was what they were seeing; 2) Additionally, he said that he had found out that the Dominoes Pizza Corporate Offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan had scheduled a laser light show that evening, and that maybe they had been watching that. [Editor's Note: I have to question why the corporate offices of a large Midwest pizza chain would be hosting a laser light show at 4 in the morning when very few people are up to watch it.] If any other Michigan observers have any additional information on this rather unusual observation, please post it here at Skywatch. Thanks. The night was rainy, and, as she halted on the doorstep, Crystal "saw five cylindrical lights spaced evenly apart in a circle I would estimate to be eight to ten feet (2.5 to 3 meters) across. Lights were pulsating on this panel around the circle. Object hovered over the top of our large weeping willow (tree), which is at least 30 feet (9 meters) high." Crystal said she watched the object hover "for approximately five seconds." During that time, it "made strange low-pitched humming sounds." She said she went back into the house for a moment to get a drink of water and then "looked out the front door again to see if the object was still there. It was, so I observed it, wondering what it was. Suddenly, it disappeared. It did not fly away or move. It was just gone and did not reappear to my knowledge." My dad and I were heading up north to go hunting. We were just outside city limits of Bemidji Minnesota traveling north on Hwy 89. We noticed a weird set of lights over a field, but since we only make it up that way about twice a year, we figured it may be a new radio tower or some form of tower that had been errected since we last passed through. As we got closer to where the "tower" should have been our conversation changed from "hunting" to what that could be in the sky. we came to a point where we were directly across from it. It was a clear night and there was no structure reaching to the sky, just 3 lights hovering above the ground. The lights were in the form of a triangle, and were all white. The reminded me of club lights, because they were tumbling. They never left the shape of a triangle, but they were tumbling, as if spinning from top to bottom. Like if you were to take a popcan and make it tumble top to bottom, from end to end. What was really cool about that is that when the lights would tumble they were as if there was a... that's it, a better description would be a light house. There would be a beam of light that would shine out and then it would be more soft, then beam of light. It's been a while I can't recall if they all tumbled in unisyn, or if they tumbled independent of each other. The craft itself you could not see, but you could see that there were 3 distinct points on it. It was like a triangle, or a flying pryamid. We had pulled over to the side of the road, and watched this thing for about 10 minutes. Two cars passed us by and we waved to them and pointed to the sky in the direction of the object. The cars hit their break lights as they passed, but continued on their way. After 10 minutes the object slowly started to move to the south, then in a blink of an eye it was like a distant star. It just took off. It was amazing. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approx. My 8 year old daughter and I were in between Minneapolis and St. paul at a shopping center ambling westward. The sky was clear blue, it was about 81 degrees out at 7:20 p.m. right as the sun was setting. There was a long diagonally slanted (from top left to lower right @ 45 degrees) red and orange fireball-like line of color descending rapidly at that angle. Therewas no ball to speak of at what would be the front. At first I thought it was a meteorite burning up as it hit the atmosphere, but the intensity of the glow did not vary all the way until it dropped out of sight in the distance. Many other planes were in the sky and it was not an aircraft, simply a long streaking line of color. The northern lights are happening I guess, and it is a good time for star watching but I've seen the Northern Lights once and shooting stars and this was something completely different. As we watched the first line of color go down on the horizon, my daughter saw another going up (bottom left to top right 45 degrees) which was a much shorter line which disappeared much quicker. This convinced me that it was something which was not easily explained. Anybody have any ideas as to what it may have been? Northern Lights or something? *** UFO SEEN BY MOTORIST OVER GACKLE, NORTH DAKOTA On October 3, 1997, at 10:23 p.m., Lee M. This is how the witness described the event to me: I saw something strange in the sky, but it didn't frighten me. It was rather peculiar though, so I'm going to attempt to describe it: I was driving down Fort William road when I saw a large object in the sky, which appeared to be near the Ontario tax building. At first I thought it was plane, but it suddenly dived from the sky to a lower altitude (much fastere than a plane). I looked at it more carefully, although it was lower on the horizon. It was shaped like an eliptical ball, and it was white like a cloud. I thought that maybe it was a cloud, but then it moved across the sky in such an unatural manner that it couldn't have been. It was heading across Lake Superior, so I drove to the Marina to see if I could see it. I lost track of it, it must have been traveling at a very high speed. I went home and told a few people, but no one was impressed by my story or even interested. It seemed unimpressive, after all it was broad daylight. This all happened October 5th around 3:00 pm. If you have any additional information please contact me asap. The witness, his wife, and his daughter, were driving north on Oct 10, 1997, at about 7:30 PM, when they observed a bright light to the NNE of them, at an intermediate elevation. They watched it appear to hover for a few minutes, then dim, and turn to a red blinking light, moving from E to W. Some of these events appear to have multiple witnesses, and involve historical sighting cases in northwestern WI. A formation of 3 orange non-blinking lights was observed 11/02/97 18:50 Green Bay, WI When first spotted by my mother[49], they were in a roughly triangular formation, moving slowly east. She called for me to come outside and look at somthing. I went out and watched them for about 5 minutes until the upper two were slowly enveloped in the cloud cover. I went inside and got my SLR camera & 400mm lens. I went back out and looked at the remaining light, but the strong lens showed revealed no shape behind the light. The other two lights now began to emerge from the clouds and the formation of the three was now close to linear and vertical. I would estimate their distance to be about 2-3 miles. I couldn't tell if they were making any sound because a helicopter was hovering 1.3 miles to the west, over the football stadium. The orange lights had no accompanying aircraft-style strobes or red/blue positioning lights. They did not move constantly, as a sattelite would and! the cloud cover was dense enough to obscure anything that high or faint. I am 34 and I am quite familiar with the way civil and military aircraft move. These lights moved similarly to helicopters, but had no regulation lights and didn't generate the sounds that a group of 3 military helicopters would make. I asked a neighbor to look at them. He did, but looked for 3 seconds, said "Oh, airplanes", and went back inside. I was looking for film inside for 2 minutes and when I went back outside, the 3 lights had vanished. *** TWO COLLEGE STUDENTS SEE UFO OVER AMES, IOWA On Tuesday night, November 11, 1997, two college students driving back to Ames, Iowa (population 45,775), a city on Highway 69 about 28 miles (45 kilometers) north of Des Moines, spotted a strange object in the sky. The sighting took place at 7:30 p.m. Central time, four hours before the "Seattle Lights" event. "The lights would have crossed his path of travel if the 100 foot (30 meter) long object turned sharply and headed back east-southeast at a steeply-descending angle--almost in a dive. When the object tilted, showing one end lower than the other, he could see a portion of the surface illuminated by lights. At that point, the object was a quarter-mile south of I-80...He drove at 65 miles per hour to the end of the row of trees, at the end of which he expected to see the object sitting in the field. This object was very orange. I'd never seen an object this orange, and it fizzled, throwing off sparks as it fell. It ended with a visual "poof." It was like a pop-bottle rocket in reverse. I saw this driving home from work. I can easily believe it was just a piece of meteor or space junk that got unusually close to the earth to flame and spark so much. Most other shooting stars I've seen have been white and made a thin white line as they've streaked across the sky. This seemed to have a more downward motion to the earth. I wouldn't report it other than the fact that I heard Peter's report on the Art Bell show, and was wondering if the sighting in Chicago occurred at this time. I didn't catch the day or time of the sighting. If this seems to fit the description of a regular falling star, then I apologize for having taken your time. I think that I have finally been successful. It was a picture of a black ' V ' which had been given the name of " Leviathan ". The short article said that there had been several sightings in March of 1997 in Arizona. Have there been any reported sightings in Minnesota? My sighting was on Tuesday, December 9, 1997, at 7:23 AM. I am employed by the xxxxxx Corporation as a Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Department and was on my way to work. The object was a ways above the tree line looking out over the St. Louis River in Cloquet, Minnesota. The object just appeared all of sudden in my field of vision, traveling from east to west, and lasting for only about 2 seconds in time (tho it seemed longer, I'm sure it was not) and just as suddenly disappeared. It was positioned on it's side so that one had the full affect of the ' V ' shape. The pictures that I saw of the Leviathan showed sets of circular lights on the bottom of the craft but if my memory serves me correctly, I thought the craft had square sets of lights with one set at the end of each section of the V, and one set about midway, but I am unable to recall if there were any lights near the point of the ' V ' or not. The craft appeared to me to be huge, but I have no way to really judge that as I had no way to tell it's distance from me or how high above the ground it was. I would be very interested in hearing more about this craft & if any other reports have been filed. I should have reported this sooner but all of this is quite new to me. I wasn't even sure who to contact or who was safe to contact, but thought I would take a chance when I found info on the Minnesota MUFON. I hope the Date of 12/09 is correct as I never docu- mented it. I never thought I would need it for future reference. It may have been later in December but I feel that the 9th is correct or very close to the date that I saw it. *** 12/15/97 23:35 Marlette, MI Circle A large solid noiseless object, possibly round, with four lights, passed slowly over a residential neighborhood in Marlette, MI. A LOT OF MOVEMENT IN SIDE OF OBJECTS (BEINGS) ALL SAME SIZE SCURRYING RAPIDLY IN MOVEMENT. VERY BRIGHT INSIDE. THEY WERE NOT HUMAN BEINGS. THE 'UPSIDE DOWN" CUP AND SAUCER WAS, WHAT LOOKED LIKE, ALL BRASS, WITH BRIGHT GREEN AND WHITE LIGHTS REVOLVING AROUND IT. THIS WAS ONLY FOR A BRIEF TEN SECONDS OR SO, SO INSTANTLY IN MY MIND, I KNEW I HAD TO ABSORB AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE. I SAW IT WITH MY OWN EYES. MY VERY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT THESE "OBJECTS" ANIMATED SCURRYING AROUND BY THESE CREATURES?... HAD SOMETHING TO ACCOMPLISH. THEY LOOKED MORE ANIMATED THAN ANYTHING I HAD EVER SEEN, AND FRANKLY, ANYTHING I WOULD CARE TO SEE AGAIN. MY KNEES KNOCKED TOGETHER FOR TWO HOURS AFTERWARD. IT WAS EXTREMELY SHOCKING, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, IN ABSOLUTE AWE OF WHAT I WAS SEEING. WE COULD NOT HOLD THE TELESCOPIC LENS STILL, SO IT WAS ONLY A BRIEF INTERLUDE, ALSO, IT WAS BITTER COLD. I KNOW WHAT I SAW, AND I SAW IT. I AM A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST, OF SOUND MIND, MY DAUGHTER IS A SURGICAL NURSE AND OF COURSE, MY GRANDDAUGHTER, A STRAIGHT-A STUDENT. MY SON-IN-LAW BEING AN AIR CONTROLLER, ALSO HAS ASTROLOGY AS HIS HOBBY, AS HE, ALSO, HAS REPORTED SIGHTING AT THE TOWER AND RADIOED TO CANADA IF THEY HAVE ANY UNIDENTIFIED AIRCRAFT COMING INTO AIRPORT FOR A LAND, ONLY TO HAVE THEM! SAY, NO ....WE HAVE NONE. THE TELESCOPE THE THREE OF US WERE STRUGGLING WITH THAT BELOW ZERO BITTER COLD NIGHT, WAS OF THE BEST SOPHISTICATION. I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO TELL SOMEONE PROFESSIONAL ABOUT THIS, OTHER THAN US THREE. WE TALK OF IT OFTEN, AND JUST BOUGHT THIS COMPUTER, AND DECIDED TO GIVE THIS A GO. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY STICKS IN MY MIND IS THE BEAUTY OF THE OUTSIDE OF THIS. A RICH, HIGHLY POLISHED-LOOKING BRASS. AMAZING. I THINK EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON IN THIS WORLD, AND I THINK IT WAS MEANT TO BE BY GOD ABOVE, THAT I SEE THIS. LIKE I SAID, WHEN WE WENT INSIDE, MY KNEES SHOOK AND MY HANDS TREMBLED FOR A GOOD COUPLE OF HOURS. IT WAS AMAZING, AND MAGNIFICENT. I SAID TO MYSELF, HOW GLAD I WAS THAT IT WAS STAYING UP THERE WE WATCHED THIS OBJECT FOR A DOOD HOUR AFTER THAT, COULD NOT GET TELESCOPE TO FOCUS AGAIN, NATURALLY.....THEN, WHEN IT DEPARTED, IT SEEMED THAT THE LIGHTS JUST, SIMPLY, FADED, THEN DIMMEND, THEN NONOTHING. VERY AWESOME, I HAVE TO ADMIT. THE LITTLE "BEINGS" I.E., CREATURES, WHAT EVER THEY WERE/ARE, WERE ALL THE SAME SIZE AND MY INSTANT IMPRESSION WAS THAT THEY ARENT'T VERY BIG. THE WINDOWS WERE MORE OF AN OBLONG SHAPE, AS OPPOSSED TO A PERFECT, CHUNKY-LOOKING SQUARE. I HOPE I HAVE BEEN OF HELP. THANK YOU FOR THIS WEB SITE. I FEEL NOW, I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING I HAVE BEEN WANTED TO TELL SOMEONE, BUT IT REALLY IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SUDDENLY SAY TO SOMEONE, OH, BY THE WAY, I SAW THIS OBJECT UP IN THE SKY, ETC.... THEY WOULD BE GOING...HO-HUM....YEAH, RIGHT. THANK YOU. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. We suspect witness has in mind astronomy, not astrology. PD)) ***
